Location
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in southwestern Uganda at the edge of the Albertine Rift bordering Democratic Republic of Congo.
It is 473km from the capital city – Kampala via Mbarara – Kabale route. Its vastness stretches between the distritcts of Kanungu, Kabale and Kisoro.

Summary

Best Time To Visit
Open to tourists all year round. January to March – is dry season, less tourists, but hot weather. April to June – rainy season, lots of new born wildlife, lush green, ideal for wildlife photography. July to August – are much cooler months and fairly drier, best time for this safari, lots of tourists. September to November – rains resume, wet conditions, less tourists. December – dry conditions, more tourists.

Kihihi airstrip, the closest to the national park, offers air transfers from Entebbe International Airport, taking approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Nestled amidst the highlands and mountain ranges of southwest Uganda, the park enjoys a tropical climate, with peak rains from March to April and September to November, and temperatures ranging from 7°C to 27°C. Divided into four sectors—Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and Rushaga—each offers unique gorilla trekking experiences and accommodation options, from luxury lodges to African-themed cottages and backpacker bandas. Surrounding the park are communities of Bakiga and Batwa pygmy people, known for their distinct cultures and traditions, offering enriching community tours. Bwindi is home to half of the world’s mountain gorilla population, along with a diverse range of wildlife, making it one of Africa’s top tourist destinations.
